Large and complex composite components are essential parts in modern aeronautical structures. Such large parts usually have serious accessibility limitations. The objective of WP6 is to investigate the possibility to provide a robust mean to inspect such parts by using advanced high energy XCT techniques combined with a robotic based setup for acquisition of CT projections in problematic regions.

This WP is composed of three major tasks. The first task of WP6 is a simulation (i.e., radiographs, CT sequences, energy spectra etc.) and modeling task (i.e., models of complex and large structures, model of the acquisition system etc.) with the aim to find the optimal acquisition scenario. This task is led by UPAT and the results achieved in this task are supposed to help into finding the optimal experimental testing scenario for each provided part. The testing of thick parts represents the second task of WP6. Led by CEA, high energy XCT techniques will be examined and adapted (i.e., detector calibration methods, use of a priori info about the parts etc.) to the acquisition situation. The last task of WP6 is led by FHG and focuses on the testing of large and complex parts by using a mobile or robot based XCT setup. Optimal geometric calibration of robotic XCT setup and adapted reconstruction techniques should allow achieving high resolution 3D reconstructions of problematic regions within the parts.
