Organisation profile:

The University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (FH OÖ) offers degree programmes as well as results of different fields of R&D. As one of four faculties of FHOÖ, the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria – Campus Wels was founded in 1994, focusing on Automation of Complex Mechatronic Systems, Testing and Processing of Materials, Eco-Energy and Environmental Engineering as well as Measurement and Testing Technology. For organizational reasons the FH OÖ group consists of 5 companies which vary in their core competences. The FH OÖ Forschungs & Entwicklungs GmbH (FHW) is entrusted with the execution of all R&D projects. All research associates, junior researchers and senior researchers at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria are exclusively employed by the FH OÖ Forschungs & Entwicklungs GmbH (FHW). FH OÖ Forschungs & Entwicklungs GmbH (FHW) is in 100% ownership of the FH OÖ Management GmbH holding company. As stated in the company registers FHW is a non-profit organization and does not generate any profit from its activities. The research group “X-ray computed tomography” which is mainly involved in the QUICOM project was founded in 2005 and consists of 4 professors and 12 research assistants.

Role in the project:

FHW will act as project coordinator and leader of WP1. Furthermore FHW will actively contribute to WP 2, 4, 6 as well as 7 and 8. The main topics FHW is addressing are 3D post processing and evaluation methods as well as micro-scale and meso-scale material characterization using high resolution CT. In the latter area FHW recently purchased a novel SubμCT device which allows characterizing specimens at very high spatial resolutions. In the area of 3D post-processing and evaluation methods FHW introduces data evaluation and visualization knowhow to develop and implement novel techniques in WP6.
